Farm and garden trade fair is on in Davao City
Amonth-long Farm & Garden Agri Trade Fair is ongoing in Davao City as one of the features of the Kadayawan celebration held in August each year. The trade fair is under the auspices of the Mindanao Garden Club headed by Vivencio “Ven” Gallego.
The event features exhibits of orchids, ornamental plants, fruit trees in container and other horticultural products. In the commercial stalls, visitors can buy fresh fruits, fruit-bearing trees, furniture, fiberglass fixtures and accessories, orchids and ornamentals.
Competitions in landscape exhibits, ornamentals and orchids, fruit trees in container, and furniture have been lined up. In the furniture competition the focus is on Gazebo. For the second time, the competition in fruit trees will be held. Last year, the first prize was the variegated tiessa with the variegated chico as second placer.
The holding of garden shows and trade fairs is one way of promoting the horticulture industry that includes orchids, ornamentals, bonsai, fruit trees and vegetables. Competition in vegetables has not been held so far.
