- By NEL B. ANDRADE

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Residents of this province have another reason to be proud after Governor Rebecca “Nini” Ynares announced yesterday that Rizal was hailed by the National Competitiveness Council of the Philippines (NCCP), as the Top 1 Most Competitive Province in the country.

The award, which was given during the 6th National Competitiveness Summit yesterday at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, is the third in a row for the province.

The citation recognizes the crucial role of local government units in promoting competitiveness in the country.

The event highlights the results of the 2018 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index and witnessed by some 1,500 delegates from local government units, national government agencies, and private sector.

Rizal Province tops in the four pillars of governance such as economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure development, and resilience among 81 provinces in the country as assessed and evaluated by the NCC with assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The competitiveness ranking among the local government units (LGUs), is an annual undertaking of the NCC as the conferment of awards that encourages them to innovate and improve their systems and procedures to attract investments and generate employment opportunities. It also serves as a tool to encourage LGUs to regularly track data and eventually benchmark performance against other LGUs for better management.

Ynares said the award reflects the provincial government’s effort in promoting social progress and better standards of life for their people. “This recognition will also provide a more enabling business environment that will make Rizal the preferred place to do business in the country and will all the more inspire us to do our best for our people,” the lady governor added.
