Bounty for every dead ‘ninja cop’ raised to ₱5M

- By GENALYN D. KABILING

President Duterte on Friday called on “ninja cops” to surrender within 48 hours as he raised the bounty for every dead rogue policeman to ₱5 million.

The President issued the directive after expressing frustration with policemen involved in the illegal drug trade during a profanity-laced speech in Davao City.

“The good practice maybe sa

ninja cops, I will now raise the amount to 15 million per ninja cop,” Duterte said during the Hugpong ng Pagbabago convention in Davao City.

“Kung dalhin mo sa akin napatay, 15 million. Pagbuhay, bigyan kita 110,000 [If you bring him to me dead, I'll give you 15 million. If alive, I'll give you 110,000],” he added.

Duterte said he intends to increase the bounty by 11 million every month if the ninja cop would not surrender. He said he would give the reward, “no questions asked,” to informants, insisting he was not joking.

“Hindi ako nagbobola. Hindi ako kagaya ng iba man. ‘Pagsinabi ko publiko, totoo ‘yan. Five million sa ninja cops. Surrender within 48 hours [I am not joking. I am not like others. If I say it in public, that’s the truth. 15 million for ninja cops. Surrender within 48 hours],” he said.

“Kasi ‘pag hindi kayo nag-surrender, dadagdagan ko ‘yan one million per month hanggang ang asawa mo maghanap ng boyfriend diyan na papatayin ka. Totoo [Because if you don't surrender, I will increase it by 11 million per month until your wife will look for a boyfriend who will kill you],” he added.

Duterte made clear that he was not asking the public to kill the ninja cop. But he joked about kicking the informant if he brings in a rogue cop alive.

Last year, the President offered 13 million for cops involved in the illegal drug trade. Ninja policemen are those who recycle illegal drugs seized in legitimate police operations.

In his remarks in Davao City, the President also warned the cops to “better shape up,” saying he would not tolerate corrupt and abusive men in uniform.

“Yung police hanggang karami ang daming kalokohan. You better shape up because I will rise and fall sa issue ng corruption [The police are involved in mischief. You better shape up because I will rise and fall on the issue of corruption],” he said.

“Ang pulis maraming atraso. P*** i*** kayo. Sinabi ko sa inyo, tama na [The police have many offenses. Son of a b*tch, I told you to stop],” he added.
