CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Sixteen chiefs of police in various stations in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region were ordered relieved from their respective posts due to their alleged poor performance in the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign, it was reported Saturday.

Chief Supt. Noli A. Romana, regional direc-

tor of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13), ordered the immediate relief of the 16 chiefs of police in Caraga region effective Aug. 17.

The region’s police chief approved the recommendation of the Oversight Committee on Illegal Drugs (OCID) on the relief of the 16 municipal chiefs of police who either had “no or low accomplishment” in the anti-illegal drug campaign in their respective areas of responsibility.

The oversight committee, headed by Senior Supt. Jimili L. Macaraeg, PRO 13 acting Deputy Regional Director for Operations, decided to recommend the relief of the police chiefs of Santiago Municipal Police Station (MPS), Las Nieves MPS, Kitcharao MPS, and Magallanes MPS of Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO); Taganaan MPS, Bacuag MPS and San Francisco MPS of Surigao del Norte PPO; and Cantilan MPs, Marihatag MPS, Cagwait MPS, and Madrid MPS of Surigao del Sur PPO.

“The COPs failed to meet the requirements presented by the oversight committee on the number of accomplishments in their anti-illegal drugs operation,” Chief Supt. Romana pointed out.

Meanwhile, the provincial director of Dinagat Islands PPO already relieved five of his chiefs of police from their post.

Other low performers were warned to intensify their operations, otherwise they will also be relieved.

“All chiefs of police in our region are reminded to maximize their efforts on anti-criminality operations especially on illegal drugs or they will face the same fate if they fail to meet the requirements set by the oversight committee,” warned the region’s police chief.

He added that the war on drugs will continue “without letup” until Caraga will be declared as “drugfree” region in Mindanao.
