PH to deploy English language teachers to China next month

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said the deployment of English language teachers to China may start next month.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III revealed that they are just waiting for the guidelines for the government-to-government hiring

scheme to be finalized.

“Deployment could be anytime now. Once the guidelines are finished, they can go,” he said in an interview.

While the guidelines are still being finalized, he said, those interested may already submit their applications to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

“They can already apply with the POEA so their papers can be processed already and they can go as soon as the guidelines are finalized,” said Bello.

He warned applicants not to fall for offers of similar employment from recruitment agencies.

“Don’t fall for such offers. This is a government-to-government arrangement between the Philippines and China,” said Bello.

The Labor Chief said at least 2,000 Filipino teachers are needed for the program.

Bello said it’s also good if the applicant knows the Chinese language.

“Maybe while going there to teach English they can also learn it (Chinese),” he said.

As to the salary, Bello said it would range from $1,400 to $1,600 (about 174,200-184,400).

He added that the contract is renewable after two years.

Asked if there is an age requirement, Bello said there is none.

“If they are good in teaching and they also know Chinese (it will be) much better,” he said.

It was last April when Secretary Bello and Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Employment of Filipino Teachers of English Language in China.
