Bongbong backs Imee on ‘moving on’ from FM time

- By ALEXANDRIA DENNISE SAN JUAN

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. supported his sister’s call to their family’s critics to move on from the riling over his father’s martial law regime 32 years ago and focus, instead, on the more important problems the nation faces.

“I understand my sister because ang pinag-uusapan is something that happened 32 years ago. It was decided. The government fell, kinasuhan kami, at may desisyon na ‘yung mga kaso. It’s done. Ano pang gusto ninyong gawin?” said the younger Marcos during a forum in Quezon City Friday.

This was after his elder sister, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos told critics of their family to move on from Martial Law during the regime of their father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

“The millennials have moved on, and I think people at my age should also move on as well,” Imee said over the week.

Her statement drew flak from progressive groups and members of the opposition who said that what happened during the dictatorship regime of the late strongman should never be forgotten.

Opposition Senator Bam Aquino also chided Imee for his “move on” statement adding that it’s “hard to move on from something that never had a closure, especially if the public was made to believe that the guilty party was innocent.”

Meanwhile, Marcos Jr. backed his sister’s statement as the question of “moving on” is being asked over and over again, he said.

According to him, Filipinos should focus more on important problems that the country is facing right now rather than the issue which was already solved long time ago.

“There are so many problems na hinaharap ng taumbayan, na hinaharap ng Pilipinas. Bakit pa natin pinag-aaksayahan ng panahon ito? Tapos na ito eh (Our nation faces so many problems. Why do we waste time on something that’s long finished?),” he explained.
