E-commerce platform Shopee is optimistic in maintaining lead in the local online selling industry as they announce their biggest regional shopping event dubbed as the Shopee 9.9 Super Shopping Day.

Since being launched in the Philippines in 2015, Shopee currently now has more than 16 million users around the country, acquiring over a million of new users per month. According to Jane Lim, Shopee Philippines Director, one out of every seven Filipinos is a Shopee user.

“In the Philippines, we’ve seen phenomenal growth and we do see high growth in the Philippines compared to some more developed markets. We’re happy to say that we’re the leading e-commerce marketplace in the region,” Lim said.

Lim shared that one of the reasons behind the growing popularity of Shopee in the Philippines is their user-friendly and interactive application design.

“We are a mobile-first platform so the way we design our app and the fact that mobile leads to higher user retention has really given us an advantage. We’ve also been focused on designing our platform to be very social,” she added.

“I think what’s next for Shopee is continued growth. Now, we have 16 million downloads which means one in seven Filipinos have the app. So I hope in the near future it will be one in one Filipinos have the app,” Lim said.

The Shopee 9.9 Super Shopping Day, an 11-day mega shopping event from August 30 to September 9, is expected to have more than 500,000 sellers and around 800 brands from more than 60 partners abroad. Users can expect up to 99% off from the largest collection of deals and massive giveaways worth over PhP 15 million from Shopee’s partner brands. (Jonnah Pante)
