Arum set to issue statement

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum will issue a statement Tuesday on Manny Pacquiao’s allegations that Top Rank has yet to settle its obligations on the broadcast rights of the July 15 fight in Malaysia.

Pacquiao took to social media on Monday night to air his grievance over the alleged failure of Arum to give the Filipino his share of $1.7-million from the $2 million revenue.

Pacquiao, who beat Lucas Matthysse in the fight in Kuala Lumpur that he himself promoted, even threatened to sue Arum over the non-payment.

Arum sent an email to the Bulletin and said Top Rank’s response will be released Tuesday.

A Team Pacquio member said on social media that soon after a press release was sent out to the local and international media, Top Rank contacted them and asked that the issue be tackled in private.

It was Pacquiao’s MP Promotions that staged the fight in Malaysia with Top Rank’s role limited to the telecast in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Pacquiao, who turns 40 on Dec. 17, has booked a Dec. 1 ring date against an opponent his handlers are targeting to be named in about ten days.

Former sparmate Amir Khan of England is the leading candidate to land the Pacquiao sweepstakes. Pacquiao no longer has a contract with Top Rank but Arum is moving heaven and earth to take the lead role in promoting the eight-division champion’s much-awaited ring return.
