Imported rice available in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – Members of the Rice Millers Associatio­n in this province will sell imported rice at P38 per kilo starting today.have agreed to sell P38 per kilo of imported rice starting Thursday.

Roderico Sulit, spokespers­on of the associatio­n, said that the rice to be sold are mixed class of 15 and 25 percent broken grains imported from Vietnam and is being made possible in coordinati­on with the National Food Authority (NFA).

Initially, Sulit said the rice will be sold in relocation sites in the municipali­ties of Balagtas on Thursday, Bocaue on Friday, Marilao on Monday, and in the City of Malolos on Tuesday.

Sulit said that the each relocation site will be allocated of 150 sacks of rice that will be sold at three to five kilos per consumer.

Marianne Pualengco of Jomaro Rice Mill said that the associatio­n’s move to sell rice at P38 per kilo is aimed at helping people in depressed areas cope with the rising price of rice.

NFA-Bulacan manager Elvira Obana, meantime, said that allocation­s for accredited rice retailers in Bulacan habe been boosted by the arrival of two shiploads of rice in Subic Bay Freeport.

The NFA is targeting a 16 percent market participat­ion in the local rice trade in Bulacan with the arrival of the rice shipment and will be distribute­d to its more than 300 accredited retailers spread throughout the province.

Mayette Sulit of Maunlad Rice Mill also said that they are studying the possibilit­y of retailing rice at P39 per kilo in depressed areas in Metro Manila.

Sulit added that since the harvest season has started, rice prices and supply will stabilize in the coming weeks.
