VMWare ready to aid PH in 5G adoption
Virtualization software and applications provider VMWare is ready to aid the country in the ongoing deployment of 5G technology with their set of solutions, said ShekkarAyyar, VMWare Executive Vice President for Strategy and Corporate Development and General Manager for Telco NFV Group.
Globe Telecom and Smart Communications announced separately that they will be ready to deploy 5G technology in the country in as early as 2019 to 2020.
The 5G technology is expected to bring faster internet connection with low latency and agility that will be beneficial not just for private consumers but most especially to industries and businesses.
According to Ayyar, VMWare has solutions that are future-proof and ready to adapt to the advancements of the 5G technology that can be used in the local setting, including the network functions virtualization (NFV).
The NFV is among a series of announcements made by VMWare during this year’s Mobile World Congress. Intended to amplify cloud capabilities and 5G networks, the NFV is a solution that allows companies, particularly Communications Service Providers to operate on a lower cost and increased agility.
Ayyar shared that VMWare can also help in addressing the economical factors that can be potential reasons in slowing the deployment of 5G.
“The key factor that could probably slow down or could make it harder to get deployed is really more economical. Because 5G requires specific investment and when people think about the investment, the investment is often ahead of demand and so you then need to be able to launch and deploy your services which in turn can then get you enough return of investment and profitability to justify the deployment of 5G.” he said.
