DU30 Cabinet Spouses Association offering scholarship slots in Cebu

- By CALVIN CORDOVA

CEBU CITY — The DU30 Cabinet Spouses Association (D30CSA) yesterday formalized a scholarship agreement with the Cebu Normal University (CNU).

Four qualified students from CNU will receive a scholarship grant from DU30CSA.

“We already have the free tuition law but students still have other necessities,” said Elena Pernia, vice president of DU30CSA’s education committee.

Qualified recipients will receive a one-year (or two-semester) grant worth P50,000 per semester.

The scholarship provides housing, daily living allowance (food and transportation), books and school supplies for the scholar.

The DU30CSA has already forged the same agreement with the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Mindanao and Cagayan State University (CSU) in Luzon.

“There is no sampling here, no representatives. We look at where there are needs. In Visayas, we want to focus on education courses and CNU has a good track record when it comes to education courses. For our partner in Mindanao, MSU is best known of its engineering, while CSU is known for its agriculture courses,” Pernia explained.

Pernia was joined in the signing of memorandum of agreement at the CNU campus by Kristine Dino and Ruby Mamondiong.

“This is an answered prayer for us, a significant milestone for CNU,” said Daisy Palompon, CNU’s vice president for academic affairs.

To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be enrolled in a fouryear course. The student must be in third year and enrolled in at least 15 units at the time of the award of the grant.

The selected students’parents’ annual gross income must not exceed P250,000, must not have any scholastic delinquency and must not have been held liable for disciplinary action.
