Ex-VP Binay will be a ‘constructive voice’ in Congress once elected

Once elected in Congress, former Vice President Jejomar C. Binay will be a “constructive voice” in Congress. Joey Salgado, Binay's spokesperson, stressed this Tuesday.

“He does not believe in obstructionist politics, or opposing just for the sake of opposing. The former Vice President will be a constructive voice in Congress,” he said in a statement.

Binay will run for congressman in Makati’s 1st District in the May, 2019, elections.

Should he be elected, Salgado said, Binay aims to support policies and programs that will improve the lives of the poor and the middle class.

“In the same manner, he will point out policies and programs that could burden our countrymen. But he will also propose solutions,” Salgado said.

The former vice president feels that there is so much discord and division in our country today, he said.

“It’s about time we begin listening to each other and working together. This is the way to move our country forward.”

He said Binay believes politics should take a backseat to upholding the dignity of Filipinos.

“Upholding the dignity of every Filipino should be a shared goal, whether one is with the administration or the opposition. It is an aspiration that should unite all political parties,” Salgado said.

The former vice president, Salgado said, would ensure that residents of the city’s 1st District will continue to receive the “Binay brand of service” in terms of relevant health, education, and social services.

During his term as Makati mayor, Binay introduced reforms that turned around Makati from a bankrupt municipality to the country’s financial district. Despite economic downturns, Makati’s revenue grew at an average of 20 percent a year and has not had a budget deficit since 1987.

He implemented programs such as the Yellow Card Program which provides city government-subsidized medical and hospitalization assistance.

His programs, he said, have been expanded by the present leadership of his daughter, incumbent Mayor Abigail Binay.
