New artists discovered at MADE 2018
The recently held Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) awarding ceremony at the Le Pavillon, Metropolitan Park in Pasay City uncovered the work of various artists from practically every corner of the Philippine archipelago.
Under the theme “discover,’ the art competition left no stone unturned in seeking out artistic potential in places often untapped in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Hundreds of entries emerged from far-flung towns and cities.
Four of the five awardees come from the provinces – three from Iloilo, a rising art province.
Iloilo-based Noel M. Elicanais the grand awardee for the oil/acrylic on canvas category.
Another artist from Iloilo, Alex P. Ordoyo, is the grand awardee for watermedia on paper category.
Bulakeño artist Francis Eugene E. Andrade’s oil/acrylic on canvas piece grabbed a Special Citation.
Completing the trio from Iloilo was Roland F. Llarena, who won a special citation for oil/acrylic on canvas category.
This year’s grand award went to Maria Ronna Lara-Bes for the sculpture recognition program.
During his speech at the awarding ceremony, Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) president Aniceto Sobrepeña said MADE will continue its commitment to nation building by discovering art that will continually challenge us to shift our frames of reference.
He believes art can help us uncover alternative approaches and discover a breakthrough for our lives, personally, and for this nation.
