THE MAGIC 8 OF THE METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL 2018 ARE:

- Public servant

After more than two decades in show business, actress Angelika Dela Cruz is doing for the first time a sitcom with no less than Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza.

On the series, she plays an octogenarian who looks so much younger than her years. The character is in love with Barak Otogan (Vic) but the latter is still hooked on his late wife Marikit (Wally Bayola). Their daughter is Visitacion or Stacy (Maine).

In a recent chat, Angelika said she’s enjoying the stint as they have a “happy set.” She finds Maine kind and respectful, the one who broke the ice between them, in fact.

“Whenever or wherever you meet her, she would immediately greet you. She always says ‘po’ and ‘opo,’” Angelika said.

Asked if, perhaps, Maine feels intimidated by the fact that Angelika is ahead of her in show business for many years, the latter said she is careful not to make people feel that way.

“I mean, I know that feeling of being left out. I used to get bullied when I was younger,” she revealed.

How is she adjusting to doing comedy? Quite well, she said, as the director allows her to do ad libs at times.

Others in the cast are Benjie Paras, Kevin Santos, Jessah Nicole, Jelson Bay, and Oyo Boy Sotto. “Daddy’s Gurl” premieres on GMA on Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. As Chairwoman of Barangay Longos in Malabon, we asked Angelika how she balances her schedule. The actress noted having the right support system and doing proper time management are all it takes. The rare times can’t go to their Barangay Hall, Angelika still updates herself and remains on the job using phone and internet. It isn’t easy and of- ten, the actress gets by with just three, four hours of sleep just to be able to fulfill her tasks.

Will she run for higher office? Angelika shook her head. “I’m not hungry for power.” But she is big on achievements. Her most recent project is building a clean and modern Barangay Hall. It houses their main offices as well as Health Center, Police Station, Day Care Center, Senior Office, Pacification Committee Office, and Barangay Council for the Protection of Children Office. The compound also has Mini-park, Multipurpose Hall, Basketball Covered Court, and Cemetery. Not bad for an actor, huh? “And as of now, the four-storey disaster building is being made. We’re hoping to finish it by next year,” she added.

Angelika said making the offices presentable symbolize the function and authority of each post. For that, she willingly dipped into her own pockets too for the project to see fruition.

Despite the stress that goes with the post, Angelika is thankful the job opened her eyes to what is really happening in the country, in their community.

“It will really change you seeing the lives of those who are striving hard to lead decent lives despite not having the means to study or get health • • • • • • • • “Aurora” (Viva Films/Thriller) “Fantastica: The Princesses, The Prince And The Perya” (Star Cinema and Viva Films/Fantasy-Comedy) “Girl In The Orange Dress” (Quantum Films and MJM Production/ Romance) “Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles” (CCM, MZET and APT Entertainment/Action-Comedy) “One Great Love” (Regal Entertainment) “Mary, Marry Me” (Ten17p Films) “Otlum” (Horshoe Studios) “Rainbow’s Sunset” (Heaven’s Best Entertainment) treatment. Surely, your perspective in life changes forever.” (Report by Stephanie Marie Bernardino)
