UCCP honoring FVR
Former president Fidel V. Ramos will be presented with a special award as one of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines’ (UCCP) most illustrious and distinguished members at the National Thanksgiving and Testimonial Dinner in his honor.
The UCCP will celebrate the life and times of former president Fidel V. Ramos for his heroic contributions to nation building.
At the quadrennial gathering of nearly 500 church leaders, delegates and international church partners, the UCCP General Assembly held in Cagayan de Oro City last May 25, 2018 voted unanimously to honor Ramos in a special occasion for being the only living President who is a Protestant.
A National Thanksgiving and Testimonial Dinner will be hosted by UCCP on October 14, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel.
A ceremonial book launch of Ramos’ volume 21 of his work entitled, “Prosper Thy Neighbor” will be sponsored by the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation (RPDEV) at 5 p.m.
Born to a devoted Christian family in Lingayen, Pangasinan, he spent most of his boyhood life in his hometown of Lingayen before moving to Manila for his studies.
His parents, former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Narciso Ramos and Angela Valdez, had a profound impact in his life.
The Ramos family is one of the founding families of the Cosmopolitan Student Church (now known as UCCP Cosmopolitan Church along Taft Avenue, Manila) in 1933.
He remains as one of its loyal church members to this day.
Ramos or FVR, as he is fondly known, is widely recognized for his leading role in toppling the Marcos dictatorship through the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986.
