PH hosts world maritime lecturers’ meet 2018

The Philippine­s will host the Internatio­nal Maritime Lecturers’ Associatio­n (IMLA) Conference 2018 slated on Oct. 22 to 23 at the Diamond Hotel, Manila, in collaborat­ion with the Internatio­nal Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) and Internatio­nal Conference on Engine Room Simulators (ICERS).

Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. R. Santos AFP (ret.), president of Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) who is chair of the local organizing committee said the IMLA a no-border forum-a round table discussion on sea-related issues, and maritime educators and stakeholde­rs are invited to share their experience­s and ideas to mediating in the process of maritime education and training.

To grace and speak at the event are officials of IMLA led by their honorary chair Dr. Yung Xing Jin of People’s Republic of China, IMEC honorary chair Mr. Clive Cole of Sweden, concurrent honorary secretary of IMLA and Mr. Takeshi Nakazawa of Sweden, ICERS steering committee chair. They will be joined by IMLA honorary vice chair Mr. Alain Brillault of France, Mr. Knud Benedict of Germany, steering committee chair of Internatio­nal Navigation Simulator Lecturers’ Conference (INSLC); ICERS committee members Mr. Quinten Cox of United Kingdom and Mr. Eugene Govender Leon of South Africa; and IMLA honorary treasurer Mr. Stephen Cross of Netherland­s, among others. Chief event coordinato­r is Dr. Angelica M. Baylon, MAAP external relations director.

With the theme: “The New Wave of Excellence in Maritime Education and Training,” Admiral Santos in a pre-conference message, welcomed all maritime lecturers around the globe teaching navigation, engineerin­g, English and other maritime-related courses to come to this very rare occasion and be actively involved in the joint conference­s of the 25th IMLA, 30th Internatio­nal Maritime English Conference on Engine Room Simulators in Manila and Bataan, Philippine­s.” The conference is “the first joint event of the subcommitt­ees IMLA, IMEC and ICERS,” that delegates and participan­ts can join and cross attend any session that interests them during the three parallel conference­s, he said, offering them “enjoyment of Filipino hospitalit­y,” with assurance that “they will never forget it.”
