Motorists urged to bear with QC traffic jams
The Quezon City (QC) government appealed to the public for their understanding and patience in bearing with the temporary inconveniences as alternate routes were improved, widened and rehabilitated to ease traffic congestion with the Metro Manila Rail Transit (MRT-7) being rushed for completion.
Engineer Chito Cabungcal chief of the Quezon City Engineering Department (QCED) noted that his office had conducted improvement, expansion and rehabilitation works on the interior and subdivision streets that may be used as alternate routes.
These roads included Regalado Drive Extension located at Barangay Fairview; Viceroy, Winston, Camaro, Atherton and Burbank Streets at Barangay North Fairview are among the roads being improved by the QCED.
Cabungcal said that these road networks may be used as traffic escape routes by motorists coming from the Novaliches area to the vicinity of Quezon City Hall.
“These alternative routes may provide the motorists with convenience as they will avoid the construction site of MRT-7,” Cabungcal said.
He explained that President Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program will reap dividends in the years to come realizing that the public also has to bear with a “bit of sacrifice.”
Critics have continuously mounted protest actions saying that the program should not have been prioritized as it only caused horrendous traffic on the affected areas.
At present the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is rushing the construction of the Manila Metro Rail Transit (MRT-7) in Quezon City reiterating its completion will ease the transportation woes of the commuters.
Due to the work at MRT-7, traffic snarl at Commonwealth Avenue drew public outrage as excavations and the installation of columns, temporary perimeter fences, passing through of heavy equipment among others have narrowed the roadway.
These current situation has severely inconvenienced the commuters coming from the southwest area of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan and other nearby areas especially during rush hours.
The MRT 7 is a rapid transit line which covers 22.8 kilometers serviced by 14 stations.
The line runs in the southwest direction from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan to the Unified Grand Central Station in North Avenue, Quezon City.
MRT-7 will traverse Quezon City and Caloocan City in Metro Manila and is expected to boost economic development at its inter-modal terminal station in San Jose Del Monte.
