Citi Plaza, Citi’s largest site in Asia Pacific, has been awarded a double Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification. The 24story office tower is the largest building in the Philippines to achieve this recognition for its Core and Shell design.

LEED is a green building certification program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, which sets standards to promote green design, construction and operations practices in buildings worldwide.

Aside from its LEED Platinum certificate for Core and Shell, Citi Plaza achieved a Platinum certificate for LEED for Commercial Interiors. Platinum is the highest LEED certification level.

Citi Plaza, located at Bonifacio Global City, accommodates more than 6,000 Citi employees. It is recognized for efficient use of energy and water, maintenance of high indoor air quality, and proper waste disposal.

The state-of-the-art facilities not only protect the environment, but also provide employees with an exceptional work setting.

The facility saves more than 23 million liters of water annually which is 48 percent better than the required LEED benchmark.

This is achieved by using water efficient low flow fixtures in toilets, pantries and cafeteria, saving the equivalent of the daily water requirement of more than 50,000 households or 9.23 Olympic-size pools.

The overall lighting design which includes installation of a “daylight harvesting system” saves more than one million Kwh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity annually. The saving is equivalent to the daily power requirement of more than half a million households.

This is accomplished through the use of low wattage LED fixtures and lighting control systems that are able to dim or switch off electric lighting in response to available daylight.

Office interiors also use low volatile organic compound paints, coatings and adhesives which improve indoor air quality. Citi Philippines CEO Aftab Ahmed said, “Citi Plaza represents a major commitment we have made in the Philippines and the double LEED Platinum awards recognize our ongoing efforts to have a positive impact in our community and the environment. Energy saving and other innovative solutions allow us to operate efficiently while providing a world-class collaborative space for our employees.”
