SPD starts security measures at cemeteries for All Saints’ & Souls’
More than a week before Undas, the Southern Police District Office (SPD) has started security preparations for the annual tradition of visiting the dearly departed on Nov. 1 and 2.
Police Senior Supt. Eliseo Dela Cruz, Acting District Director of SPD, has included in the security preparations the deployment of additional police officers to intensify monitoring of all bus stations, airport commercial centers and some segments of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) located within the Southern Metro.
Also, Dela Cruz ordered all chiefs of police of the seven police stations under SPD to increase their police visibility by conducting round-the-clock foot and mobile patrols on the streets to deter any criminal activity.
Personnel complements from the District’s Police Stations – consisting of 720 men and women –will be deployed starting October 30, to provide police assistance to those who will visit the graves of their loved ones at an earlier date.
SPD will deploy 970 police personnel in 28 cemeteries within its area – 870 police personnel with 100 augmentations from Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The top-most priority for the security deployment and monitoring are the terminals, train stations including commercial establishments and other places of convergence within the southern metro.
Tighter security will be implemented at the cemetery entrances to prevent the entry of liquor, bladed weapons, illegal drugs and other prohibited items.
The security deployment of the SPD will also be complemented by 1,605 force multipliers, Bantay Bayan, Barangay Tanods and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs), security guards and NGOs to ensure a peaceful commemoration of the All Saints and All Souls’ Day by the public.
