Typhoon ‘Rosita’ causes M in damage to agricultur­e

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said yesterday that more than R130 million worth of damage was recorded in Northern Luzon as a result of typhoon “Rosita.”

NDRRMC Executive Director and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Administra­tor Ricardo B. Jalad said there was R131,427,646.53 worth of damage to the agricultur­e sector in Regions 2 and the Cordillera Administra­tive Region (CAR) following Rosita’s onslaught.

Jalad said most of the damage were registered in irrigation, fisheries facilities, infrastruc­ture, equipment, and high value commercial crops (HVCC).

At the same time, Jalad said a total of 7,881 houses were damaged (7,039 partially and 842 totally) in Regions 1, 2, 3, 8 and CAR.

He added that the number of families affected by typhoon Rosita, that hit Northern Luzon on Tuesday, has already reached 65,068 families or 253,298 persons in 1,370 barangays in Regions 1, 2, 3, 8 and CAR.

Of the number, 135 families or 466 individual­s are still being served in 15 evacuation centers.

Jalad said a total of 20 incident (landslide, flooding and capsized boat were also reported in Regions 2, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and CAR.

He said as of Sunday (November 4, 2018), a total of 11 people were confirmed killed in CAR and CALABARZON.
