Cebu airport operator signs 5-year deal for digital solutions

- By BERNIE CAHILES-MAGKILAT

ENGIE Services Philippines has signed a five-year contract with the GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) for the provision of the facilities management services to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 1 and 2.

With this partnership, ENGIE’s digital solutions will be implemented through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) allowing critical information to be exchanged in a timely and secure manner between asset and staff, contributing to enhanced maintenance quality as well as a transparent and accountable maintenance regime.

GMCAC is a consortium between Megawide Construction Corporation, one of Philippines’ leading construction firms, and India-based airport infrastructure developer GMR Group. GMCAC was given the authority to operate and develop MCIA for a 25-year period by the Department of Transportation of the Philippines, effective from 1 November 2014.

“GMCAC strives to deliver not just a world-class infrastructure but also worldclass services. We are, therefore, delighted to engage ENGIE, an engineering and facilities management organization with extensive airport operations and engineering services, as our partner and service provider. We look forward to the opportunity of upskilling the Filipino staff who have joined this prestigious company,” said Andrew Acquaah-Harrison, Chief Executive Advisor, GMCAC.

ENGIE Services Philippines’ partnership with GMCAC represents another significant milestone for sustainability in the Philippines, following ENGIE’s announcement in October, where the Group entered into a joint venture with FDC Utilities, Inc. (FDCUI), a subsidiary of Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC ) for the incorporation of FilinvestENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise, Inc. (FREE), to develop solar energy rooftop systems for Philippine customers.

Digital technology is playing an increasingly important role in controlling energy system performance, a critical success factor as organizations take steps to improve their energy efficiency. As the leading global energy service provider, ENGIE harnesses the latest digital technologies to provide better support for our clients who are looking to lower their carbon footprint while reducing costs,” said Pierre Cheyron, CEO, ENGIE Services Asia-Pacific.

“Our partnership with GMCAC will help enhance the company’s costefficiency and productivity, putting them in a good position to meet the dynamic needs of running the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. This is also a significant step for ENGIE as we continue to support sustainable economic growth in the Philippines as we play a leading role in Asia Pacific’s energy transition.”
