HK magazine cites ICTSI’s ESG anew

-

Port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has once again been honored as among the elite Asian companies that has shown all-round excellence in environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) by Hong Kong-based financial magazine The Asset, winning the highest Platinum ESG citation for the fifth consecutive year.

ICTSI was also lauded as the Best Initiative in Innovation for the Automated Entry Gates at its flagship, the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT); and Highly-Commended Initiative in Social Responsibility for the Water System for Aeta Community project by the Company’s social responsibility arm, the ICTSI Foundation.

“We are very delighted and proud to receive these citations from The Asset, highly reflective of ICTSI’s commitment towards Corporate Stewardship of our people, customers, corporate resources and the environment in the last 30 years and beyond,” says Christian R. Gonzalez, ICTSI Global Corporate Head.

“This achievement reflects that while good governance is core to our company's performance, contributions to the broader society and environmental responsibility are also critical, as is transparency with investors and other stakeholders.”

Reflecting the Company’s robust operations and management acumen, ICTSI was adjudged with high marks in financial performance with a score of 5.3, and 74 in Corporate Governance, 89 in Social Responsibility, 77 in Environmental Responsibility, and 80 in Investor Relations.

Asia’s longest-running and premier awards on ESG, The Asset Corporate Awards 2018 survey rewards companies which demonstrated a high level of ESG principles across its operations — typically recording stronger financial performance and beating their benchmark.

The Asset also lauded the “huge difference” brought by the automated entry gates at the Company’s flagship operations at the MICT, winning this year’s Best Initiative in Innovation — which not only “boosted operations and security at the country's premier container terminal, but also further improve safety of cargo as all boxes are weighed as they pass through the gates.”

“This project aimed to achieve a faster turnaround time for gate transactions, providing smoother and faster customer experience. It took advantage of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology in automating the capture of truck plate numbers, container numbers going in and gating out of the terminal. These tasks were previously done manually,” The Asset said.

The Asset Best Innovation award celebrates not only novel ideas, methods or device, but also the process of finding better ways of doing things and adapting old models to suit new environments.

Commendation was also given for the ICTSI Foundation’s outreach to Aeta communities in Tarlac, providing communities with fresh tap water.

The Asset Corporate Awards 2018 will be hosted at the Four Seasons Hotel, Hong Kong on December 10, 2018.

ICTSI’s global standards and best practices has been the standard in all of its international and domestic terminals and operations, which now span 31 terminals in 18 countries, spread across six continents.
