- By JONAS REYES

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – United Auctioneers, Inc. CEO Dominic Sytin was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman along Waterfront Road in this freeport Wednesday night.

The 51-year-old Sytin was with his bodyguard Efren Espartero at around 7:30 p.m. when the incident happened.

Subic Police said Sytin was about to enter The Lighthouse Hotel when he was shot at the back and left side of his head.

Espartero managed to return fire and was wounded.

The assailant was described to be around 5’9 tall, of medium built, and wearing a blue shirt, gray pants and red veil.

He sped off in a scooter after the attack.

Sytin died on the spot while Espartero was last listed in critical condition.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Chairman Wilma Eisma ordered a lockdown of the freeport after the incident.

“We ask for the cooperation of the public as we impose strict security measures in the Subic Bay Freeport, and urge any person with information to help authorities solve this crime,” Eisma stressed.

“The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority condemns in the strongest possible term what is apparently a targeted assassination of a business locator in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone,” Eisma added.

“This is sad news for us, not only because a prominent businessman who has been a very active member of the Subic Freeport community has fallen prey to violence, but also because one life has been snuffed out just like that.”

SBMA is currently working with the Philippine National Police and other investigating units to identify and pursue the perpetrators of the crime.
