MORE Power assures Iloilo City folk of able power distribution

ILOILO CITY – The Razon-owned firm looking to secure a franchise to distribute power in Iloilo City on Monday reiterated its capability to serve city residents.

“We are here so we can do better service than what is existing,” said Roel Z. Castro, president and chief executive officer of MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power).

“Consumers have been clamoring for this. Give us a chance to prove that we will be able to do it,” Castro told the Manila Bulletin in an interview.

Last week, MORE Power presented its programs to the Iloilo City Council and the Senate approved its franchise application during the final reading.

While its entry is seen to put an end to the 95-year reign of Panay Electric Co. (PECO), some local government officials and residents have questioned MORE Power, which is formerly a mining company.

“The company is made out of people who have enough expertise in the power industry,” Castro said.

One of MORE Power’s officers is Amado Guevarra, who has been credited for fixing the

Pampanga Electric Cooperative II (PELCO-II).

In terms of facilities, MORE Power is seeking to purchase the existing facilities of PECO, whose franchise will expire in January 2019.

But PECO vowed not to sell its assets while taking its fight to the Supreme Court after its application for franchise renewal was stalled at the Lower House. (Tara Yap)
