New Cebu tower goes the green way
The Philippines is experiencing a boom in sustainability. Cebu, in particular, is focused on green living, even earning the title of “the most livable city.” Some of its efforts include the “no segregation, no collection” policy for solid waste, the Cebu Hillylands reforestation caravan, and its push for a zero-waste lifestyle. The local government has also installed LED streetlights.
Even property developers are going the sustainable route. All over the country, there are 92 real estate projects that have been recognized with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications, a reliable green building rating system.
Joining the initiative to build a greener Cebu is JEG Development Corporation (JDC). It is currently building JEG Tower @ One Acacia, one of the few buildings in the city to be recognized by LEED with a pre-certified Silver rating.
The new project broke ground in February and is set to be a cutting-edge Grade A office and retail building with 22 floors.
Next to the BPI Corporate Center in Ayala Center, JDC’s first high-rise in Cebu will use less water, energy, and emit less greenhouse gases. To further reduce energy costs, the tower has an enhanced interior space for maximum views and natural lighting. Tenants are also engaged in sustainability efforts through bike racks, transport terminals, and establishments that are within walking distance.
“We’re happy that going green in our industry has become a global trend. Hearing about the number of projects that are getting certified by LEED assures us that we are heading in the right direction. Through JEG Tower @ One Acacia, we hope to encourage ourselves and other developers to push for a more sustainable approach to architecture and design,” said COO Marko Sarmiento.
