Imelda posts R300k bail
Former First Lady and incumbent Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos on Wednesday posted a R300,000 bail before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division after she was granted permission to file postconviction remedies.
She was not present during actual posting of bail, since her lawyers did so on her behalf.
They also paid R4,700 worth of legal fees.
Marcos was found guilty on seven counts of graft, which were filed back in 1991.
These stemmed from her "direct and indirect financial or pecuniary interest" in the management of several nongovernment organizations created in Switzerland from 1968 to 1984.
Marcos maintained accounts with the Swiss Bank Corporation for the said foundations "for the benefit of the accused and her late husband," according to the charge sheets.
At the time, she was Minister of Human Settlement and Environment Management, Metro Manila Governor, and a member of the Interim Batasang Pambansa.
Due to her conviction, she could either file a motion for reconsideration before the Sandiganbayan or elevate her case to the Supreme Court.
So far, she has not filed any motion for reconsideration before the anti-graft court.
What she did, however, was file a notice of appeal on November 26. Marcos feels wronged by her guilty verdict, so she "requests that the records of the instant case be forwarded to the Supreme Court for further proceedings."
