DTI sees rollback in SRPs of basic goods

- By BERNIE CAHILES-MAGKILAT

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) expects reduction in some suggested retail prices (SRPs) on basic needs and prime commodities (BNPCs) due to “big time” rollback in oil prices due to continuing slide in world oil prices.

DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said they aregoing to come up with new SRPs on BNPCs this week because the September 1 SRP was supposed to expire by December 1.

But Castelo said that until a new SRP Bulletin is issued, the September 1 SRP is still effective.

“Until then there should be no movement in the SRPs,” she stressed.

Castelo, however, admitted that some Noche Buena items have already increased their prices.

She said the price hikes in Noche Buena products vary.

According to Castelo, 33 percent of the Noche Buena products in the SRP list retained their prices.

Those that retained their prices are: Swift Ham, all kinds; King Sue, pear shaped and loaf ham; CDo, hamon de bola and pear shaped; Frabelle, pear shaped.

Those who decreased their prices are: Frabelle, jamon de bola, honeyglazed ham.

Increases range from 2-5 percent or 14-119.

For Queso de bola, Magnolia gold edam cheese ball and Magnolia queso de bola retained their prices.

For fruit cocktail brands, Dole tropical, all sizes kept their prices.

Other brands increased by 4-7 percent from 12-110.

On pasta, Spaghetti Amigo, La Filipina, Fiesta, Royal, Balducci, San Remo, El Real; Elbow macaroni Amigo, La Filipina, Fiesta, Royal, San Remo and El Real have maintained their prices.

Increases in other brands range from 1-10 percent or from 1.85 to 14.50.

For creams, Nestle thick cream and Angel Krem Queso have kept their prices while other brands increased by 6 to 15 percent or from 12 to 16.50.

For tomato sauce, Amigo and Clara Olé brands did not raise prices.

Others have raised prices by 2-10 percent or 1.25 to 15.50.
