Buboy wants a more fiery Pacquiao

- By NICK GIONGCO

The last three weeks that they’ve been working out together, trainer Buboy Fernandez has drilled to Manny Pacquiao one specific thing.

“Ilabas mo ang angas mo. Ipakita mo sa kanila ang angas mo (Display your fiery side),” Fernandez – sharing it to the Bulletin yesterday – was supposed to have told Pacquiao, 37 days before the Filipino ring icon defends the World Boxing Association welterweight title against Adrien Broner in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao has been training under the watchful eyes of Fernandez and conditioning coach Justin Fortune at the Elorde Gym in the vast Mall of Asia complex.

“Kung akala nila ay lumabas na ang angas ni Manny against (Lucas) Matthysse sa Malaysia, mayroon pa siyang ilalabas ngayon (He has more to show after the Matthysse fight).

What Fernandez wants to see is the Pacquiao who dominated Marco Antonio Barrera in 2013.

“Iyon yung Pacquiao na gustonggusto ko. Dominante at punong-puno ng angas (That’s the Pacquiao that I liked the most – truly dominant),” said Fernandez.

Pacquiao skipped Tuesday’s training session to be at the Senate but is expected to show up at the gym later before heading back to General Santos City Thursday morning.

During his nine-day stay there, Pacquiao will celebrate his 40th birthday on Dec. 17.

On Dec. 22, Team Pacquiao will fly to the US for the final four weeks of training at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.
