- By FREDDIE C. VELEZ

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan - The Philippines, with a population of over 100 million, needs an effective healthcare system that will ensure that all its citizens have access to quality healthcare services, regardless of social class or geographic location.

Thus said former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who was the guest speaker in the Gawad Galing Kalusugan (GGK) 2018 Awarding Ceremony at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium last Tuesday.

Recognizing the efforts of the 36 awardees from hospitals, health partners and public health workers, Go also acknowledged the importance of volunteer health workers.

“I will also push for increasing the salaries of our nurses and providing more benefits for our barangay health workers because they are essential in keeping the citizenry healthy. Our healthcare programs will only be effective if we also take care of our healthcare providers,” Go shared.

“Our government is recognizing the need for everyone, young and old to be physically fit and mentally well that may call the nation aspire for greater things. Napakahalaga po ng malusog na pangangatawan, na sisidlan ng malikhaing kaisipan para sa kaganapan ng isang mamamayan,” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said.

The governor also announced the efforts of the province to modernize and widen the services offered by the Bulacan Medical Center.

“Almost one third of our budget ay ginagastos po natin sa kalusugan, nagpagawa pa po tayo ngayon ng R260 million worth of 200-bed capacity hospital, zero billing po tayo dito, hindi po natin inutang, iyan po’y savings ng ating pamahalaan,” Alvarado emphasized.
