Tribal Christmas festivities in Quirino

A ‘tribal Christmas’ in Quirino is highlighting the vital role of indigenous peoples in nation building.

The ‘Christmas among the tribes’ attraction at the Quirino Sports Tourism Complex in the capital town of Cabarroguis features ethnic - themed exhibits to higlight the cultural diversity and harmony of the people.

The Tinguian and Itneg tribes of Duffun, Iffugao of Cabarroghis, Igorot from Aglipay , Agta from Madella, Ilocano from Saguday and Bugkalot from Nagtipunan all prepared programs, exhibits and other attractions for local and foreign guests.

Quirino Gov. Junie Cua said the Christmas showcase is an initiative to attract tourists and further spur economic activity.

Cua said this year’s celebration is special with the consecutive annual Seal of Good Local Governance award it has received from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for its excellence in financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, and peace and order.

The province also recently received the Gawad Kalasag Award from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The Christmas festivities, which will run until December 31, also features live bands, a giant lantern or ‘parol’ contest, food stalls, a bazaar and presentations from various schools and government offices.
