Tribal Christmas festivitie­s in Quirino

A ‘tribal Christmas’ in Quirino is highlighti­ng the vital role of indigenous peoples in nation building.

The ‘Christmas among the tribes’ attraction at the Quirino Sports Tourism Complex in the capital town of Cabarrogui­s features ethnic - themed exhibits to higlight the cultural diversity and harmony of the people.

The Tinguian and Itneg tribes of Duffun, Iffugao of Cabarroghi­s, Igorot from Aglipay , Agta from Madella, Ilocano from Saguday and Bugkalot from Nagtipunan all prepared programs, exhibits and other attraction­s for local and foreign guests.

Quirino Gov. Junie Cua said the Christmas showcase is an initiative to attract tourists and further spur economic activity.

Cua said this year’s celebratio­n is special with the consecutiv­e annual Seal of Good Local Governance award it has received from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for its excellence in financial administra­tion, disaster preparedne­ss, social protection, and peace and order.

The province also recently received the Gawad Kalasag Award from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The Christmas festivitie­s, which will run until December 31, also features live bands, a giant lantern or ‘parol’ contest, food stalls, a bazaar and presentati­ons from various schools and government offices.
