Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray gets congratulatory messages from PH stars
Miss Universe Catriona Gray’s newly won crown is the 4th for the Philippines in the pageant’s history. Before her were Filipinas Gloria Diaz (in 1969), Margie Moran (1973), and Pia Wurtzbach (2015).
Catriona slayed the competition with her notable performance, like the “lava walk” and “slow-mo turn” both of which trended online. Her dresses at various points were significant to the country, its people and even Pinoy culture (e.g. Adarna Bird and Mayon Volcano).
In the interview right after she was declared winner, Catriona revealed she wore red in the evening gown competition because her mother dreamed back when she (Catriona) was 13 that she won the Miss Universe in that exact color.
And in case you didn’t know it, Catriona just completed the color of the Philippine Flag by wearing that gown. Recall that Gloria’s long gown was in yellow, Margarita’s was white, and Pia’s was blue.
The moment Catriona won, several Pinoy personalities – many of whom are her friends since Catriona is a professional model – congratulated her on social media.
Among them is beauty queen Teresita Ssen Marquez who tweeted how “proud” she is to be Pinay. She is Miss Reina-Hispanoamericana 2016.
“Laban kung laban!! So happy we got our fourth Miss Universe crown! Congatulations @catriona_gray. BEAUTY AND BRAINS! ITULOY ANG RAMPAHAN! WAAAHHH!,” her tweet read.
Meanwhile, the first celebrities who celebrated Catriona’s win online were actors Donny Pangilinan, Sharlene San Pedro, Marlo Mortel, and Anne Curtis-Smith, saying they all knew the beauty queen would win.
“Like I said, I never had a doubt that you’re gonna win!
You were simply born to be a winner and inspire everyone with your God-given talents. Keep that fire burning. We are all so proud of you!”
Marlo shared.
On Instagram, comedy actor Vice Ganda had the words “Pinoy Pride! Fantastica ka, Catriona!” along with the picture of the beauty queen.
Tim Yap claimed the stars in the universe aligned for Catriona as “premonition of what was to come.”
Maymay Entrata echoed it, saying “God has called you to change the world,” then attached it with a Bible verse “Make your light shine so others will see the good you do and will praise your Father in heaven” Matt.5.
Isabelle Daza, Bela Padilla, and Kim Chiu commended Catriona on their respective social media accounts.
Kim shared her reaction video along with her sister. She wrote as caption, “Since day one you made each and every Filipino proud from your OOTDs, your presence and most especially on how you represent Philippines throughout the world.
“I was personally moved by your #ThisIsPhilippines Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao videos!!! Never seen Philippines in that perspective most especially the Mindanao video.
