Army captures NPA camp in Nueva Ecija
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The military has captured what is believed to be a New People’s Army (NPA) encampment on Tuesday in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.
Major Ericson C. Bulosan, spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), on Thursday confirmed that troops from the 91st Infantry Battalion (IB) seized the supposed NPA camp and food storage facility at around 5p.m. on Tuesday.
He said that the 91st IB, 703rd Infantry Brigade of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID) conducted focused military operations in the area after being tipped off by local residents.
“Our troops recovered from the site the six blue containers (30L), four of which were filled with rice and one gallon (6L capacity) that was fully-filled with salt which were later discovered as means to be used for the celebration of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) anniversary in the area,” he said.
Nolcom chief Lieutenant General Emmanuel B. Salamat, commended Major General Felimon T. Santos, Jr., commander of the army’s 7ID, for the efficient response of his troops in combating terroristic motives in the areas of Northern and Central Luzon.
“As the holiday season is nearing, Nolcom will continue to be more vigilant in looking out for elements that pose as threats to the well-being of the people. It will also continue to strengthen its bond with the community and other concerned agencies in order to further maximize its capabilities in achieving lasting peace, security, and development in its area of responsibility,” Salamat said.
