LPA brewing off eastern Mindanao – PAGASA
Another low pressure area (LPA) was spotted brewing off eastern Mindanao, while the tail-end of a cold front will affect eastern section of Southern Luzon, the state weather bureau said on Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in its Friday morning bulletin, said the LPA was spotted at 900 kilometer east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz said that the trough or extension of the LPA will affect the Visayas, the eastern part of Mindanao as well as Southern Luzon.
Dela Cruz said that the weather disturbance is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone as it is expected to dissipate by Saturday night or Sunday morning.
PAGASA added that fair weather is expected on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected to prevail in the Bicol region, Visayas, Caraga region, Davao region and Mimaropa region due to LPA and the tail-end of cold front.
Flash floods and landslides due to scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains are possible according to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or 'amihan' will continue to prevail in Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos region.
In Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers are expected due to localized thunderstorm.
