DPWH opening motorist assistance centers in Ilocandia for the holidays

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Ilocos region will secure and put up motorist assistance stations during the peak Christmas season travel period from December 21 to January 2 next year.

“This is to secure all travelers along the national highways and to provide assistance for better and safer travel,” said DPWH Ilocos regional director Ronnel Tan.

The DPWH will be in close coordinati­on with the Land Transporta­tion Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government agencies and local government units.

Tan also directed the district engineerin­g offices with an on-going long-term based maintenanc­e projects to properly coordinate with the project engineers of both the Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) and concerned contractor­s for the scheduling of roadworks.

“There should be no obstructio­ns along the right of way of national highways as this may delay the flow of traffic. Installati­on of necessary traffic advisory and directiona­l, informativ­e and warning signs should also be undertaken to guide motorists for smooth and safe travel,” said Tan.

Tan’s instructio­n is in compliance with the directive of DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar.

DPWH – Ilocos region has 10 district engineerin­g offices in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan and La Union.
