PSC invites POC to COA meeting on liquidation
In a bid to enlighten both sides on the issue of liquidation, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) yesterday formally invited the Philippine Olympic Com- mittee (POC) to a consultative meeting in January with the Commission on Audit (COA).
The meeting with the COA should enable the POC to understand why the PSC is determined to collect from various national sports associations that have financial obligations with the government agency.
PSC chairman Butch Ramirez and POC president Ricky Vargas spoke about it after the PSC forged a partnership with the Department of Justice so the agency can properly manage its finances.
“I have invited him that we both go to the COA so we’ll know how to solve this problem,” said Ramirez, noting that even those incurred and owed by previous leaders who are no longer around are still up for collection.
“That doesn’t get erased. Money owed should be given back,” said Ramirez.
“NSA leaders who say that they were not the ones who got the money (from the PSC) and past officials should be held accountable are wrong,” said Ramirez.
“When they assumed leadership, they also assumed the responsibilities of the NSA,” he said.
Ramirez said the PSC and POC should work together.
“We cannot succeed without working together because while we are with the government and they are private, in the end, we both carry the same flag, the Philippine flag when we compete overseas,” added Ramirez.
Vargas is out of the country for the holidays but will be back early next year.
