- By EMMIE V. ABADILLA

Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, the road infrastructure arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, expects traffic flow to Cavite to significantly improve with its subsidiary, opening recently of the 1800-million Phase 1 Cavitex road work enhancements by its subsidiary, Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC), concessionaire of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex).

The Cavitex enhancements project officially opened include the Southbound Flyover and Left Turning Facility towards Pacific Drive leading to Diosdada Macapagal Ave. They had been partially opened during the first quarter of this year.

Now, the full opening of the four lanes and the left turning facility should provide more convenience for motorists passing through the facility during the holidays.

“This Southbound flyover and left turn facility of Cavitex greatly helps to ease the flow of the average 140,000 vehicle transactions,” according to Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar. “We expect more room for our motorists when Phase 2 is done in the fourth quarter of 2019,” he added.

“We all know that progress is aggressive in Cavite. The province is booming with real estate developers, trade investments and movement in tourism and we expect more vehicles to use Cavitex to and from Parañaque, Las Piñas, Cavite and the cities of Manila and Makati,” the DPWH secretary elaborated.

“Our partnerships with the private sector is in fruition and we endeavor to finish more projects in 2019.”

With the growing vehicular traffic at Cavitex, “We were determined to finish the flyover facility the soonest as well as advance the works of the Pacific Drive upgrading which was originally included in Phase 2,” pledged new CIC president Roberto Bontia.

“We saw the need to include the road works at the Pacific Drive to compliment the elevated south-bound lanes and left turn from Cavitex, targeting its completion now that the holiday season has started,” he elaborated.

“We have prepared for the increase of traffic and designated Traffic Marshals and ground support to help manage it, especially during rush hours while motorists are still getting used to driving on this structure,” Bontia went on.

Part of the traffic management is the strict implementation of traffic rules and apprehension of violators which also affects smooth passage.

“With the flyover fully open, we urge motorists to take advantage of the electronic toll collection system (ETC) such as the EasyTrip RFID now enjoyed by regular users of Cavitex,” noted the CIC President.

The RFID is more convenient compared to cash payment and will help motorists experience faster travel from the flyover and through the toll plaza.

The Cavitex is part of a road network being expanded by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, it will connect to the 7.7KM C5Southlink which will traverse Taguig, Las Piñas, Parañaque and the 45KM CaviteLaguna Expressway which connects at Kawit and will traverse Imus, Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, Silang, Sta. Rosa, Laguna Boulevard until Mamplasan, Biñan, Laguna.

Included in the MPTC project portfolio are NLEX, SCTEX and the soon-to-open Segment 10 and the ongoing NLEX Connector Road giving more traffic solutions to Metro Manila motorists.
