2 LPAs bring rainy Christmas

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

Two low-pressure areas (LPAs) and the tail-end of cold front will bring rains over parts of the country today, Christmas Day.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said one of the LPAs was estimated at 325 kilometers west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City or over the West Philippine Sea around Monday noon.

This particular LPA has been bringing rains over Southern Luzon, Bicol and Visayas in the past few

days. It traversed Visayas on its way to the West Philippines.

PAGASA said this LPA will continue to bring moderate to at times heavy rains over northern Palawan.

Meanwhile, the trough or extension of a new LPA east of Mindanao is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over the region.

It was last located at 1,270 km east of Mindanao or still outside the Philippine area of responsibility around mid-Monday.

It will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains over Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat.

PAGASA advised residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, low-lying and mountainous areas to take extra precaution against possible flooding and landslides.

Weather forecasters said the tailend of cold front will also continue to bring light to moderate to at times heavy rains over Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Isabela, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan.

Metro Manila and the rest of Northern and Central Luzon will have occasional light rains.
