Presidential adviser backs Angkas

- By ALEXANDRIA DENNISE SAN JUAN

Businessman turned Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion extended its support to Angkas and other online platforms tagging it as 'game-changers' in creating prosperity for all Filipinos.

Concepcion said the birth of online platforms came about as the economy today has been transformed by digitalization that opens greater access to money and market for Filipino entrepreneurs.

Concepcion said that the greater access to market is now possible through online and app-based platforms recently launched in the country that provide entrepreneurs the ability and opportunity to sell directly to consumers.

One of the platforms, especially for people who own motorcycles, cited by Concepcion is the popular motorbikehailing app Angkas.

"For many micro and small entrepreneurs, the first vehicle they buy is a motorcycle as this provides them mobility. With Angkas providing a market place for people who need a quick ride, motorcycle owners can now offer their services on a private basis," Concepcion explained.

The presidential consultant added that Angkas can be considered already as a "marketplace" which does not employ the biker or the driver, similar to

other ride-hailing apps such as Grab.

"It just provides a platform for riders who are now entrepreneurs to directly connect to their passengers," he said.

Concepcion has likened Angkas to other app-based platforms that are offering products or services to the online community in today’s digital world.

Angkas is facing a crackdown order after the SC issued a temporary restraining order against the previous preliminary injunction issued by Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Branch 213 in favor of the ongoing operation of the company.

With this, law enforcement operations may continue apprehending Angkas bikers, which are considered by the Department as "colorum" and unsafe for passengers.
