Apologize when circumstances require it!

This coming new year – 2019, let us have a resolution. A terrific resolution that will greatly improve our relationship with other people. Try it!

So often said that the three of life’s most difficult words to say are, “I was wrong.” There three words are also the most powerful words we can utter. Simply because these words break down barriers between people. These words bond people together. These words express apology in a sincere way. These words melt bitterness, arrogance, and conceit. These words when uttered prove that there are wonderful people in this world who admit mistakes when they are wrong. Humble people who are great.

There are many proud people in our midst who find it demeaning to admit mistakes when they are wrong. They look arrogant; act arrogant and talk arrogant. Especially people who are rich, powerful and intelligent. To them their word is law. Even if what they are saying is wrong, out of context, or blatantly not in conformity with what is right – they will never bend back to apologize and say “I was wrong.” They are not honest in their dealings with others. They are not true to themselves and to other people.

The message that I am trying to convey is to highlight the importance of having quality relationship with other people. As Zig Ziglar, a well-known motivational speaker once said: “Life is an echo. What you send out – come back. What you sow, you reap. What you give, you get. What you see in others, exists in you. Regardless of who you are or what you do, if you are looking for the best way to reap the most reward in all areas of life, you should look for the good in every person and in every situation and adopt the golden rule as a way of life. It’s a universal truth that you treat people exactly like you see them. It’s also true that all you have to do to find ‘good’ or ‘ability’ in a person is to look for it. Once you find that ‘good’ or ‘ability’ in the other person you treat him better and he performs better.”

Exporters as well as other businessmen and all of us for that matter should know the value of saying “I was wrong” when circumstances require it.
