Repositioning Pia Wurtzbach

-

JUST A THOUGHT: “Beauty, without expression, tires.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

PLANNING PIA: With a new, reigning Filipina Miss Universe on hand, 2015 titlist Pia Wurtzbach may need a bit of repositioning. Pia’s next big step could be showbiz. Half her foot is already in it. She’s no stranger to the biz, having started her career as a teen actress.

The country’s third Miss Universe is, in fact, one of the hosts of a forthcoming dance show, “World of Dance,” on ABS-CBN.

SHE CAN ACT: In the recent film “My Perfect You,” Pia showed she could act as naturally as the next actress. For wider reach, how about Pia on a noontime variety show? Or a teleserye, where she could play a vida-contravida role?

Women of Pia’s stature, height and all, are often com- promised by their size. They don’t look credible as oppressed heroines. Their bigness makes them a shoo-in for villain roles. I heard Pia isn’t averse to playing those roles. She has already tried it once in a film with Vice Ganda.

As all eyes are now focused on 2018 winner, Catriona Gray, we must not forget that two years ago, one December, Pia also made us proud as Filipinos when she became our third Miss Universe.

WIDER AUDIENCE REACH: Subconsciously, Pia may have been targeting a wider audience reach when she agreed to be Ginebra San Miguel’s calendar girl for 2019.

The move surprised many, but not Miss Universe, who probably thought it was a good way to embrace the masses.

She admitted its pictorial marked the first time she ever posed in a two-piece bikini again, outside of a beauty pageant.

MISS UNIVERSE FIGURE: Even title holders of prestigious international beauty contests have the right to grow bigger than their model-perfect figure.

Pia admitted that when she was informed that the gin-maker wanted her to be its 2019 model, she paused and tarried a bit.

“I must confess I felt I had grown out of my Miss Universe figure, my body wasn’t anymore as fit as it was, given that I had been enjoying myself, as well,’’ she said.

Pia asked for two weeks to prepare herself for the shoot. She launched a back-breaking routine of workout, diet, total fitness.

She came out of it, according to her, better looking than when she joined the Miss U in the States in 2016. The result of Pia’s determination to get her figure back in shape is captured in a series of calendars showing her lovely in two-piece bikinis.

Pia believes her story doesn’t end with Miss Universe. She can offer a lot more through endorsements, movies, TV shows. She hosts a lesser known travel show on ANC, “Postcards From Pia.”
