New warning out on floods, landslides

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

The prevailing tail-end of a cold front and northeast monsoon or amihan could trigger flash floods or landslides over most of the country within the next few days.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands and the entire Visayas will have

cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevailing weather systems.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains could trigger flooding or landslides in these areas. PAGASA warned residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, and low-lying and mountainous areas, to take extra precaution.

The amihan will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms could bring isolated rain showers over the rest of Mindanao. PAGASA also warned the public to be alert against possible flooding and landslides over low-lying and mountainous areas during severe thunderstorms.

Due to the surge of amihan, a gale warning remains in effect as sea travel remains risky over the eastern seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

PAGASA warned fisherfolk from setting sail into these coastlines due to rough seas that will be dangerous for small sea crafts.

The rest of the country will have moderate to rough seas.
