NAVAL, Biliran – The Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) is implementing the P43.163-million improvement of a road to a popular waterfall in the province to boost its tourism potential.

The project is being carried out under the Special Convergence Support Program of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Tourism (DOT.

David P. Adongay Jr., Biliran district engineer, told the Manila Bulletin the project involves the concreting of the 1.484 km. gravel road complete with roadside features.

“Soon, no more long hiking for tourists who wish to visit the beautiful Ulanulan waterfalls in Barangay Sampao in Almeria town,” Adongay said.

Ulan-ulan Falls is one of the most visited destinations in the province. “Ulan" is the Filipino term for rain and it suits as a name for this falls.

“It takes a 30 to 40 minute hike from the barangay road to reach the falls. Once the road is finished, tourists will be able to reach the waterfalls in just 10 to 15 minutes by riding a vehicle”, Adongay said.

The DEO wanted to complete the project before the end of 2018, but the ground became too soft to work on because of frequent rain, so the contractor requested for an extension.

The road is 67-percent finished, DEO said.
