CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Local officials here expressed their gratitude to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who initiated a R10-million financial assistance package for five provinces in Southern Luzon that were hit by Typhoon Usman last December 31.

Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali Jr. said the cash aid will be of great help to his constituents who were directly affected by the typhoon, noting that it destroyed roads, bridges, and houses during a heavy downpour that lasted two days.

This appreciation was also echoed by Vice-Governor Humerlito Dolor, who immediately passed Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 4527-2018 placing eight towns, namely, Baco, Naujan, Socorro, Pola, Pinamalayan, Bansud, Bongabong and Calapan City, under a state of calamity.

Mayor Duterte, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, was authorized by the

Davao City Council through a resolution to use P10 million from the City’s Calamity Fund as financial aid to Oriental Mindoro, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte, or the five Luzon provinces affected by Usman.

Davao City Central 911 Head Emmanuel Jaldon and City Disaster Risk Resource Management Officer Alfredo Baloran personally handed over Oriental Mindoro’s share of the donation worth R1 million to Gov. Umali at his office in Calapan City.

Vice-Gov. Dolor said that under a state of calamity status, price control or price freeze is strictly implemented for 60 days as mandated by Republic Act (RA) 7581 or Price Act Law.
