PH PLEDGES TO EQUIP ITS WORKFORCE FOR THE WORLD
Key leaders and decision makers gathered at the Government-Academe-Industry Network, Inc. (GAIN) 2019 National Convention and signed a resolution to faithfully adopt the qualifications frameworks necessary for the Philippines to be globally competitive. This is in response to issues challenging the Filipino workforce, such as international labor mobility and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
The resolution underscores the importance of upgrading the country’s digital literacy and English proficiency standards to become globally competitive. To achieve these standards, the resolution appeals for the creation of a unified national agency that will plan, lead, organize, and measure the implementation of the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF). This will elevate the country to be on a par with the ASEAN Qualification Reference Framework (AQRF).
Representatives from major associations and regulating bodies were present at the event, among which are the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP), Federation of Accrediting Agencies in the Philippines (FAAP), Association of Asian School Human Resource Practitioners (AASHPI), Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), Information and Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), and Philippine Association of Professional Regulatory Board Members (PAPRB).
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Arts, and Culture and a member of the Committee on Labor, Employment, and Human Resources Development — expressed his legislative commitment to the issue at hand.
