PBA ALL-STARS Twin Towers banner South

- By JONAS TERRADO

June Mar Fajardo, Greg Slaughter, James Yap, Calvin Abueva and Scottie Thompson were among the players selected by fans to start in the PBA All-Star slated March 31 in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

Fajardo and Slaughter will form a twin tower combination as they team up with Yap, Thompson and Mark Barroca to lead the Southerners in the annual extravaganza which will be held for the first time in Pangasinan.

Abueva, on the other hand, will join hands with LA Tenorio, Paul Lee, Marcio Lassiter and Japeth Aguilar for the North team which hopes to counter the South’s height advantage with its quickness.

The North against South match marks the return of the league to the traditional single All-Star Game format after spending the previous two seasons holding three-leg affairs.

Fajardo and Slaughter hope to maximize their rare partnership as they did last year when they played together for the Visayas All-Stars against the national team in the Iloilo City leg.

Thompson will suit up for his third consecutive All-Star.

Yap’s latest appearance in the exhibition classic comes amid a current resurgence as Rain or Shine’s top scorer in the Philippine Cup.

Tenorio will likely break Alvin Patrimonio’s record for consecutive games played by the time he joins his fellow AllStars in Calasiao.
