PayMaya Encourages Youth Entrepreneurship through Gawad Kalinga-SEED Support

-

To help more young Filipinos take advantage of the multitude of opportunities available in the new economy, PayMaya is encouraging the development of entrepreneurship among the youth through SEED (School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development), the education arm of Gawad Kalinga.

PayMaya recently turned over a P1 million donation to Gawad Kalinga in support of SEED at the GKEnchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan to help further grow its program for youth entrepreneurs.

The amount served as proceeds from the #PayMayaItForward campaign held in December 2018, where every transaction made by PayMaya account holders from December 24 to 31 corresponded to an amount to be donated to Gawad Kalinga and SEED, capped at P1 million.

“We’d like to thank PayMaya for supporting our cause at SEED in cultivating and growing young social entrepreneurs who will be future leaders of their respective communities,” said Mark Lawrence Cruz, Executive Director of SEED. “SEED and PayMaya share common goals of empowering Filipinos nationwide through economic empowerment, so we couldn’t be any happier about this collaboration with them.”

“We are very proud to support SEED through Gawad Kalinga in its efforts to help grow more social entrepreneurs among young people around the country. This is in line with our mission at PayMaya of opening the doors to inclusive opportunities for every Filipino through technology, so they may be able to participate and thrive in the new economy,” said Kenneth Palacios, Director and Head of Wallets Business at PayMaya.

Through SEED, the youth of the country are empowered with business development skills focusing on the agricultural aspect so they can create social enterprises that would help benefit their respective communities and lift them out of poverty.

The two-year, TESDA-accredited program of SEED has so far benefited more than 200 scholars from various provinces nationwide since its establishment in 2014.

The donation to SEED is just the beginning of a broader collaboration between PayMaya and Gawad Kalinga-SEED as both work jointly in empowering entrepreneurs around the country in the wake of the growing digital economy.
