The 35th National Day of Brunei Darussalam

BRUNEI

is known as Negara Brunei Darussalam —“Negara” means country and “Darussalam” means abode of peace. Brunei Darussalam lies north and west of the Malaysian state of Sarawak and faces the South China Sea to the north. It is one of the most stable, progressive, and prosperous among the member states of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Although, it gained independence from Britain on January 1, 1984, Brunei traditionally celebrates National Day on the 23rd day of February. And this year marks the 35th National Day of Brunei.

The celebration upholds the value of the Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB), the Malay Islamic Monarchy.

Brunei and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in January, 1984. On its anniversary, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, affirmed the steady growth of the friendship of their countries over the past three decades and their cooperation in the Association of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN). They cited the potential for deepening bilateral relations with an expanded agenda, through sustained dialogue and exchanges at all levels and across various sectors of government and civil society.

Brunei’s 35th National Day celebration will carry the theme “Menjayakan Wawasan Negara,” which is to accomplish the Brunei Vision of its 2035 aspirations.

We greet the people and government of Brunei Darussalam, headed by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, on the occasion of their 35th National Day.
