MPBL: Bulacan Kuyas prevail

The Bulacan Kuyas whipped up a second half storm to turn back the Marikina Shoemaster­s, 79-72, Wednesday and remain inside the top 5 of the North Division of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at the Bulacan Capitol gym.

Down 39-34 at the half, the Mighty Sports-backed Kuyas outscored the Shoemaster­s, 21-15, to grab the third quarter upper hand, 55-54.

It was the Kuyas’ 14th victory in 11 games, keeping their hold of fifth place behind fourth-running Manila Stars.

In the other game, the Pasay Voyagers dumped the Pasig Pirates, 84-71, behind the efforts of Jan Jamon, who pumped in 24 points.

Macalalad, of Team Tri Gear was crowned male 18-24 champion in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 6 seconds. Banjo Norte, zipped into the chute 22 seconds later to bag first place in the male 25-29 age group followed by Julius Constantin­o at 2:17:08.

In the women’s competitio­n Manayon did Omega Tri Team proud coming in at 2:38:59 to emerge champion of the female 18-24 category. Age proved to be no barrier as Manayon was joined in the top 3 by Ines Santiago of the 35-39 age group in 2:41:22 and Petro Kuiper of the 50-54 age group at 2:48:33.

Other standard distance age-group champions of the My Daily Collagen Triathlon supported by Smart, Saucony, Vittoria, Rudy Project, ACEA Subic Bay, Court Meridian Hotel & Suites and the Subic Bay Metropolit­an Authority were Cianyl Gonzales ( 25-29), Lyllian Grace Banzon and Lorin-Pedro Balandreau (30-34), Ronald Molit (35-39), Nylah Bautista and Jeff Valdez (40-44), Bic Ferreria and Romeo Marquez (45-49), Peter Gonzalez (50-54), Rune Stroem (55-59), and Josef Guetta (60-above).
