Gerald Santos gives ‘Miss Saigon’ days one final glance D-1
Gerald Santos takes with him so many lessons from the recently concluded “Miss Saigon” UK/ Ireland Tour.
The 27-year-old thespian played Thuy in the highly acclaimed musical which ended last month after a tour of 14 cities.
In an interview, he said that he now values taking care of himself more than ever, having experienced life away from friends and family. Gerald became more independent and learned much about simple things in life, like washing the dishes, running errands and riding public transportation. Gerald learned more about his craft in doing “Saigon,” from vocal techniques to versatile acting.
“I was able to explore my capabilities,” he noted. “That was necessary as I wanted to make each performance fresh.” “So, really, from time to time I change it up,” he added. “Though we all have respective default performance yet we still change it a bit and add something new.” After
What are his next steps? Well, Gerald had filed for a working visa in UK and he hopes it will get approved soon.
Prior to going back to the Philippines, Gerald auditioned for another musical in UK, and for roles in upcoming Netflix shows.
So, more of Gerald abroad than here?
“I would say so,” he said. “But then I won’t take my career here for granted. I could record a single from time to time and have it played here. And I can always comeback to perform.”
Gerald, now with Star Music, had just released the song, “I Am Yours.”
He is set to have a concert on May 4, 8 p.m. at The Theatre at Solaire.
“Gerald Santos The Homecoming Concert” sees him reunite with other “Miss Saigon” alumni, namely, Joreen Bautista who was an alternate to Kim, Aicelle Santos who was Gigi, and Leo T. Valdez who was The Engineer. Also appearing as guest performer is Jake Zyrus.
The singer said concertgoers could expect a “musical extravaganza” as they prepared a lot of surprise numbers and songs from musicals.
Gerald is also gearing up for a concert in Hunnan, China. They’re looking for a famous Chinese singer to be guest performer in their show. (With report from Stephanie Bernardino)
