Far Eastern University (FEU) aims for a sweep of the first round eliminations when it squares off with De La Salle today in NCAA men’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Tamaraws have been at the helm and a victory in their 10 a.m. tussle would pull them away from the rest of the field and extend their winning run to seven games.

They are coming off a 25-14, 25-23, 25-23 win over Adamson last Sunday.

Currently leading the service and setting departments, FEU’s spiking duo of Jude Garcia and John Paul Bugaoan are expected to spearhead their offense along with versatile setter Owen Suarez.

The Tamaraws have only dropped five sets in six matches.

Meanwhile, defending champion National University (5-1) collides with Ateneo (4-2) in the 8 a.m. opener in a bid to end the first round on a high note.

In women’s action, Ateneo tries to keep its seat on top when it faces NU at 2 p.m.

The Lady Eagles have been on fire, winning five straight matches for 5-1.

NU also is showing signs of life and hopes it could pull off another stunning win similar to its 25-17, 14-25, 17-25, 2523, 17-15 triumph over fancied University of the Philippines last Wednesday that improved its record to 2-4.

In the other match, La Salle and FEU seek to untangle themselves from a three-way tie at second when they collide at 4 p.m.

Toting identical 4-2 marks, the Lady Spikers and Lady Tamaraws aim to follow up their recent victories with La Salle besting UE, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 last Saturday and FEU surviving Adamson, 25-18, 17-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-8, on Sunday.

A win for either La Salle or FEU would put them half a game behind league-leader Ateneo, which carries a 5-1 record.
